According to reports, Chelsea have placed a £35.1 million bid for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and hope to complete the deal next week. A deal in principle is said to have been agreed between the two clubs for Bakoyoko’s departure to Stamford Bridge, a player who has been one of Antonio Conte’s first choice in midfield for months to partner N’golo Kante.
Negotiations will be continuing over the weekend with personal terms between the France international and Chelsea to be agreed on. However, no hitches are expected as Chelsea are reportedly planning to offer Bakayoko a five-year contract alongside the medical which will be scheduled for next week.
The arrival of Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge may likely increase Matic’s chance of leaving Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford with the latter being reported to have agreed to a deal with Man United in a bid to reunite with his former boss. Matic’s departure from the Bridge was blocked by Conte last season, reports have revealed.
Bakayoko has been identified as the ideal partner for the tireless N’golo Kante in midfield with Matic set to move on. However, it is being reported that Chelsea won’t allow Matic to leave on the cheap as Conte plans to make six major additions to the squad that will be competing in the UEFA Champions League and the three domestic competitions.
Bakayoko was impressive and consistent for Leonardo Jardim’s Monaco in the French Ligue 1 where they emerged as domestic champions, and in the UEFA Champions League where they reached the semi-finals against all odds before being eliminated by losing finalist Juventus. We wait to see the club confirm his arrival and watch how he settles in the Chelsea side.
