La Liga giants Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo on a five-year contract which is dependent on the success of a medical. The club released a statement on their website stating that the player will undergo a medical on Friday
Reports indicate that the transfer fee to be paid to Benfica for the acquisition of the exciting full-back and Portuguese international should be to the tune of £26m
Semedo represented Portugal in the recently concluded FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia and was sent off in the third place play-off game against Mexico. He had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford by various reports.
He made 63 appearances for Benfica in the past two seasons, winning two Primeira Liga titles in the process
“FC Barcelona and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nélson Semedo, pending medical tests on Friday in Barcelona,” a statement on Barcelona’s website said.
“Semedo is an offensive full-back with superb physical attributes and he will be the ninth Portuguese to defend the Barca shirt.”
