Bayern Munich goalkeeper and Germany international Manuel Neuer has revealed that his period of recovery from the latest fracture he picked up could be at least six months, although he hopes to feature for the club before the season runs out.
Neuer got injured during training last month and went under the blade for a successful surgery that is expected to keep him out of action till the end of the year.
“There’s tissue repair going on inside the foot, this can last up to six months,” he said in the course of an interview with Bayern TV.
“It hasn’t been an easy for me and I am longing to be back on the pitch.”
Although it is unlikely he’ll be fit to return after the winter break as initially expected, he harbors the hope of returning ahead of time.
“Of course, it always depends on the healing process,” he added. “My recovery is going well so far. I’m very positive and think I am making progress.”
Bayern Munich are currently 5 points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund, and the availability of Neuer between the sticks is bound to impact how Bayern catch up with the opposition.
