Premier League Match Day 33 Africa 11

The Premier League Match Day 33 fixtures saw various African players in action for their sides. 10 games were played across all the match centers. The players played their parts in wins, draws, and losses. This week’s Premier League Africa 11 sees a lot of debutants make their appearance on the list. Some of the relegation bound teams saw their African players come to life over the weekend. Sunderland were beneficiaries. It’s almost too late for them at the moment as they will rely on others to slip up while they gather momentum and string up a consecutive number of wins.

All in all, African players accounted for 2 goals out of the 30 scored on the Match Day. 1 assist was also delivered by an African player. All these are significant as the team won or drew. We place emphasis on players whose teams won or drew. These are the individuals that made the Match Day 33 Africa 11 squad.

WAHBI KHAZRI

NATIONALITY: TUNISIA

CLUB: SUNDERLAND

POSITION: MIDFIELDER

The black cats’ wide man was on hand to deliver an impressive performance and scored a goal to ensure Sunderland ended their goal drought and garner a very much needed point. He scored directly from a corner kick to equalize for Sunderland. He also made a couple of key runs and attacking forays into the opposition box from the left and right sides of midfield.

DIDIER IBRAHIM NDONG

NATIONALITY: GABON

CLUB: SUNDERLAND

POSITION: MIDFIELDER

The Gabonese midfielder played his part in midfield with needed interceptions and forward runs to destabilize the opponent. He made a couple of good runs but missed a sitter to draw Sunderland level when they were down 2:1. He impressed nonetheless.

ERIC BAILLY

NATIONALITY: IVORY COAST

CLUB: MANCHESTER UNITED

POSITION: CENTER BACK

The Ivorian Center Back was rock solid in defence as he and his counterparts ensured Chelsea’s attack never had any significant sniff of Da Gea’s goal. He was also on hand to frustrate Diego Costa on the day. He played his part in defence excellently as Man United emerged with a much sought after win.

RIYAD MAHREZ

The Algerian attacker was significant yet again in Leicester’s fight for a decent finish this season.  His vision and awareness in delivering a quick pass to Vardy that ended up an assist were top notch.

WILFRED NDIDI

NATIONALITY: NIGERIA

CLUB: LEICESTER CITY

POSITION: DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER

The Nigerian defensive midfielder stood his ground in midfield alongside his partner to dispel the threats of opposition attacks. Everything seemed to be going fine till they went 2 up and allowed complacency to creep in. They escaped with a point though.

ANDRE AYEW

NATIONALITY: GHANA

CLUB: WEST HAM

POSITION: ATTACKING MIDFIELDER / STRIKER

The Ghanaian attacker played his role in the attacking position as he had to react quickest, and apply maximum composure in a pressurized position in the opposition box, to control and coolly slot past Jordan Pickford and open the scoring for West Ham.

JOEL MATIP

NATIONALITY: CAMEROON

CLUB: LIVERPOOL

POSITION: CENTER BACK

The Cameroonian defender played his part in defence to ensure that Liverpool emerged from the Hawthorns with 1 goal and 3 points. A bogey ground for them in past seasons. A very much needed win in to boost their chances of a top 4 finish.

YAYA TOURE

NATIONALITY: IVORY COAST

CLUB: MANCHESTER CITY

POSITION: CENTRAL MIDFIELDER

The towering Ivorian versatile midfielder was composed and played his role in midfield as Guardiola’s men ran riot against Southampton. He spread play effectively and was more disciplined in his approach.

The Senegalese Midfielder was his usual self on the day, thwarting opposition runs and attacks through midfield to ensure Everton emerged with a record 8 consecutive home wins

WILFRED ZAHA

CLUB: CRYSTAL PALACE

POSITION: ATTACKING MIDFIELDER / WINGER

The Ivorian winger was on hand to ensure Palace salvaged a point from a losing position. His runs, dribbles and passes contributed to the point they stole from under the noses of Leicester City.

CHEIKHOU KOUYATE

NATIONALITY: SENEGAL

CLUB: WEST HAM

POSITION: CENTRAL MIDFIELDER

The Senegalese midfielder made significant contributions to his side’s 1 point away to Sunderland. No screamer of a goal from him on the day as the previous week but he was efficient.
