Man United’s new boy Victor Lindelof has revealed his favorite playing position on the pitch. He admitted that he prefers to play in the center back position, although he had been utilized in central midfield and right back positions earlier in his career.
Reports confirmed that the 22-year-old completed his move to Old Trafford on Wednesday after he put his signature in agreement to the terms of a four-year contract.
The Swedish player has been described as a player who can be deployed at the fullback position as a right back, although Lindelof is ready to stake a claim for a place in the central heart of Manchester United’s defense.
He confirmed this in an interview with Manchester United Television MUTV:
“My position is a centre-back, but I’ve played right-back before and I started my footballing career as a midfielder. But I see myself as a central defender, I feel most comfortable there”
He faces competition from the likes of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Chris Smalling for a place in the heart of Man United’s defense, as the aforementioned players were all deployed in those positions over the course of last season.
He’ll have to impress so he that he can carve a niche for himself as a formidable Premier League center back. Reports also suggest that the arrival of Lindelof could signal an end to Chris Smalling’s Man United career as a host of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the Englishman’s signature.
