Reports suggest that the Spanish courts have relaunched an investigation into an allegation of tax fraud involving former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso

The case brought against Xabi Alonso was shelved in January 2017 but after punishment was meted out on Javier Mascherano in a similar case, Diario AS have revealed that it has been reopened.

The charges of fraud brought against Alonso are alleged financial offences in the years between 2010 and 2012 when he sold his image rights to a company in Portugal for 5 million euros, which were deemed not to have any criminal liability.

However, it was alleged that the monies were hidden from the Spanish state and a court case is now scheduled to be reopened against the former Spanish international who retired last year.
