2018/19 UCL Matchday 1 review – Part 1

The 2018/19 UEFA Champions League went off with a bright start on Tuesday night with the second set of games set to commence today.

The first round of games saw the majority of the favorites on the night emerge with maximum points. There were lots of eye-catching moments with regards to last-minute winners, hat-tricks being banged, end to end encounters, and some games that failed to live up to expectations.

Spanish champions Barcelona whitewashed their Eredivisie counterparts 4 nil with Lionel Messi scoring an impressive hat-trick on the night.

Inter Milan had to wait till the latter stages of the game to complete a sensational comeback win against Tottenham Hotspur at the San Siro with Mauro Icardi and Matias Vecino producing the goods for the Nerazzurri.

Anfield was a center of attraction as PSG clawed themselves back into the game from a 2 nil deficit in the last 10 minutes. They had eyes on a point but were stunned when substitute Roberto Firmino scored a last-gasp winner for the Reds to send the Anfield faithful bonkers.

Napoli and Dortmund whom many thought would leave their respective away grounds with goals underwhelmed on the night. Dortmund had to wait till the 85th minute for a Christian Pulisic winner against Club Brugge while Napoli played out a goalless draw with Red Star Belgrade a.k.a Crvena Zvezda

Schalke settled for a 1 all draw with FC Porto while Galatasaray beat Lokomotiv Moscow 2 nil. Seeming domestic strugglers in Monaco and Atletico Madrid faced each other with the La Liga side emerging with all 3 points after a 1:2 win.

All in all, it was an exciting opening day of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and we look forward to today’s cracking games.
