The 2020/21 Serie A season is yet to see perennial league winners Juventus take over the top spot from the other sides who have proven that they are up for a fight for the title this season.
Regardless, the two top sides in Serie A presently are AC Milan and Inter Milan and both sides will face off on Sunday at the San Siro with the winner further consolidating on the top spot.
Who would have thought that a Milan derby at this point in the season would play a huge role in who wins the title? I doubt if anyone would have bragged that the Milan derby at this point in the season would be a title decider.
However, we have one in our hands! A title-deciding Milan derby! AC Milan will host Inter Milan on Sunday in the Serie A and a win for either of the sides will see them maintain the gap over Juventus or even extend it if the Old Ladies falter in their next game.
Antonio Conte’s men are top of Serie A after beating Lazio 3:1 in the last matchday. This was possible after AC Milan lost 2 nil away to Spezia in a game where they were favorites and this should call for concern from Stefano Pioli.
The Rossoneri had been phenomenal away from home and this was their first away loss of the season. They had drawn just 1 away game and had won 9 in 10 before then. However, at home, they’ve lost 2 in their last 5 and 3 in total from 12.
There’s always the fear that these sides can come out firing at the early stages of the season and wilt under pressure, allowing Juventus to take over and this has been the story for many seasons.
Let’s hope that AC Milan have not begun to wilt under pressure while Inter Milan are in the ascendancy. Both sides have faced each other twice in the Milan derby this season, one in the Serie A and one in Coppa Italia.
AC Milan beat Inter away from home in the Serie A and lost away from home to Inter in Coppa Italia. The Rossoneri last beat the Nerazzurri at home in the Serie A in 2016. However, Inter Milan have won the last two fixtures away to AC Milan and are favored on head-to-head rules.
Antonio Conte’s men are presently the most in-form team in Serie A and with AC Milan’s inconsistencies in recent weeks, one shouldn’t count them out, especially when you consider the patchy home form of Stefano Pioli’s side.
Regardless, we are expecting an eventful Milan derby with many things to lose for the eventual loser and thus makes the game a cracker.
Fans of both sides will be in ecstasy ahead of the game although I sense that Inter’s fans will be more confident going into this one.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku will face off again as both sides have all key players available. Hopefully, the duo will face off and settle their differences with performances on the pitch and not actual fisticuffs.
