Alba – Luis Suarez was a gift from Barca to Atletico Madrid

Ahead of the Euro 2020 competition, Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has spoken about the challenges that the Spanish national team camp is currently facing after Sergio Busquets tested positive for coronavirus.

He also revealed his thoughts about Barca manager Ronald Koman and spoke about the just-concluded season. He made his thoughts known in a chat during the Cadena SER’s El Larguero program with anecdotes about Lionel Messi and his potential exit from Camp Nou.

The defender also spoke about the decision to allow Luis Suarez to join Atletico Madrid, one which was heavily regretted in the 2020/21 season as he helped fire the Rojiblancos to the title.

Reports suggest that Luis Suarez was the subject of a funny transfer decision, as the former board of the club unceremoniously let go of him, allowing Atletico Madrid to get their man at almost no cost. After Atletico Madrid’s La Liga triumph, the Uruguayan forward didn’t hold back as he slammed his former club for how they treated him.

Meanwhile, whilst speaking, Alba also expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision: Luis Suárez was practically gifted above all to a direct rival like Atlético. I didn’t like it. Where are you going to find a striker like him? He has silenced a lot of mouths, it was not easy his last year at Barcelona.”

Alba went on to speak about Lionel Messi’s future at the club, a topic that has been greatly speculated in recent months. Regardless, it appears the Argentine is inching close to renewing his contract with the club and everyone at the club would be delighted.

“Hopefully Messi stays. It would be very good news if Leo stayed with us, he makes the club better,” said the 32-year old.

Alba’s future at the club has also been a subject of speculation as he is being linked with an exit from Barcelona. However, he may stay put due to the club’s lack of options in the left-back position but with possibly reduced terms in his contract.
