Arsenal are reportedly considering a £25m move for Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji after talks over a possible move began in January.
The 24-year-old has established himself as a regular for Dortmund this season having made 20 starts thus far. The player has developed significantly after arriving from FC Basel in 2017 and is now a subject of interest from the London club.
Arsenal’s initial move for the defender was knocked back after Abdou Diallo’s move to Paris Saint-Germain. However, they’re confident that a deal can be done for the Swiss defender this summer.
Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for quality reinforcements in defense ahead of the 2020/21 football season, and despite the loan arrival of Pablo Mari, they’ve also been linked with Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti. However, his transfer budget is limited.
Akanji is under contract at Dortmund until 2020 and they are under no pressure to cash in on him. Regardless, they are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for the Swiss international.
Manuel Akanji was in action for Borussia Dortmund on their return to competitive football action and played all 90 minutes as they walloped Schalke 4 nil at the Signal Iduna Park last weekend.
