The Premier League is beginning to take shape with the contenders gradually being separated from the pretenders. In that period, one team that has caught the eye recently with a rich burst of form is Unai Emery’s Arsenal.
The Gunners started the 2018/19 Premier League season slowly but have been resurgent in all competitions and it would be foolhardy to write them off from competing for the Premier League title and other competitions under Unai Emery this season.
Arsenal are yet to maintain a place in the top 4 this season but it is obviously a matter of time going by the performances they’ve been putting in.
The Gunners are yet to suffer a loss after the 3:2 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the early periods of the season. They have gone on a run of 21 games and counting, in all competitions, without tasting defeat since then.
In that time, they’ve won 16 games, including an 11-game consecutive winning run and have drawn 5 in all competitions. The Gunners are different under Unai Emery and have shown character and resilience to grind out wins even when they’ve not been at their best.
The latest was the 1 nil win against Huddersfield Town at the Emirates in the weekend as they left it late with Lucas Torreira scoring the winner with an overhead kick, and this was preceded by the win in the North London derby and a 2 all draw away to Man United at Old Trafford.
It can be recalled that Lucas Torreira also made his mark in the North London derby with the 4:2 win against city rivals Tottenham Hotspur by scoring the 4th goal after impressing in his overall play.
Lucas Torreira is unarguably one of Arsenal’s weapons this season and despite his size, the Uruguay international is a beast in midfield and has started drawing comparisons to N’Golo Kante. The defensive midfielder already has 2 goals and 2 assists to his name in the Premier League.
One major key point is that the Gunners have also not struggled in Mesut Ozil’s recent absence and it’s a big plus, all thanks to Unai Emery’s ability to tweak his formation to suit his personnel.
The Gunners have two quality strikers in Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette this season, and they can do more damages. This is a different and a more efficient Arsenal. Other contenders must watch out for what Unai Emery is cooking.
