Aston Villa set to move for Leon Bailey

Aston Villa are preparing to make a move for Bayern Leverkusen star Leon Bailey. They’ve identified Bailey as a realistic target and are preparing to approach the Bundesliga outfit for his services.

Bailey, a Jamaican, can play on both flanks and has two years left on his contract. He is currently valued at between £25m-£30m.

Villa boss Dean Smith is interested in another wide man as Trezeguet continues his recovery from a knee injury while the club are willing to listen to offers for Anwar El Ghazi.

Bailey, 23, is an exciting winger who joined Bayern Leverkusen from Genk in 2017 and has been previously linked with a number of the clubs in England.

It appears the 2020/21 season was his best so far for Leverkusen as he scored 14 goals and recorded 10 assists in 38 games.

Villa have big plans for this window and are already monitoring a host of targets this summer. It can be recalled that they’ve already signed Emiliano Buendia for £40m, and have overseen the return of Ashley Young to the club on a free transfer.

They’ve already made two bids for Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe and this is a major statement of intent ahead of the 2021/22 season. Meanwhile, their plans will also be determined by the future of captain Jack Grealish who has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

Tottenham’s Harry Winks and Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse are also on their shortlist this summer.
