It appears that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid will begin their 2021//22 campaign without Joao Felix. The attacker played a significant role in their domestic success last term but will not be available for the start of the 2021/22 season.
This is coming after Felix played with significant pain in his ankle for Portugal at Euro 2020 and decided to undergo an operation to remedy the situation.
Dutch specialist Cornelis Nicolaas Van Dijk carried out the procedure and everything went according to plan. However, in light of the procedure, Diario AS have disclosed that Felix’s return date is not set to be until September.
The Portuguese midfielder is working to strengthen his ligaments and ankles in the course of the preseason.
However, while he is in the process of recovery, he’ll miss the opening two weeks or thereabout of the new La Liga season.
The player’s absence will be a major blow for the defending champions as they kick off their campaigns against the likes of Celta Vigo and Villareal. The positive is that he will be able to compete without pain and this will be good for the team in the long run.
