It appears that Memphis Depay may stay longer at Barcelona than earlier reported with regards to the duration of his contract at Camp Nou. Esport3 in a report carried by Diario Sport suggests that there is a clause in the initial two-year contract that would allow for a unilateral one-year extension.
The report further adds that the Catalan giants can inform Depay before December 31 2022 that they want to extend his contract, and this would be six months before the end of the two-year deal in question.
Apparently, Memphis Depay rejected better economic proposals to sign for Barcelona is excited about the possibility of playing under the management of Ronald Koeman, his fellow Dutchman.
They’ve previously worked together in the Dutch national team setup and have been keen for a reunion for many months.
Barcelona have announced the acquisition of Depay ahead of the 2021/22 season but he’s yet to be unveiled as he is currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2020.
He has been very impressive for the Dutch side in the ongoing competition and has scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist in 3 games for Frank de Boer’s side.
His performance in the competition is surely a positive for Barca who want to return to their glory days under new president Joan Laporta. Meanwhile, all concerns at Camp Nou will be on convincing Messi to put pen to paper at the Camp Nou before the month of June runs out.
