Barca in crisis ahead of UCL clash against Napoli

Barcelona lost the La Liga title to Real Madrid but still have the UEFA Champions League to fight for, although it remains to be seen if they can get far in the competition with how average they’ve been this season by their standards.

The Catalan club is reportedly in crisis ahead of the UCL Round of 16-second leg clash against Serie A outfit Napoli. Barcelona have struggled this season but it came as a little surprise when Ernesto Valverde was replaced with Quique Setien.

The decision hasn’t paid many dividends thus far as the same problems persisted under the new manager. It can be recalled that Valverde had Barcelona topping the league before his dismissal.

However, Setien couldn’t replicate the feat for long and eventually lost the La Liga to perennial rivals Real Madrid.

Well, Setien has another opportunity to prove he’s the right man for the job with the UCL still up for grabs. The problem is that he may have to go past Napoli with a depleted squad that has been hit with injuries and suspensions.

A report by The Sun has claimed that Setien has only 14 senior players available for the clash against Napoli at Camp Nou with Arturo Vidal and Sergio Busquets already suspended for the game. These are key men in Barcelona’s midfield and this is already a cause for concern even without the injuries.

Barca have been decent in defence this season and it is one of their strong points in the 2019/20 season.

They will be tested though as Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet are the only fit center-backs available for the Napoli game as Samuel Umtiti and Ronald Araujo are injured.

Therefore, Setien will be forced to call some B team players to boost his squad ahead of the game and this could play out for better or for worse. Napoli will fancy their chances a Camp Nou.
