Barca keen to offload Rakitic before the winter transfer window shuts
According to Sport, Ivan Rakitic’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain as the La Liga champions are hoping to sell the Croatian midfielder before the end of the winter transfer window.
Rakitic has been with Barcelona since 2015 after joining from Sevilla. Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest midfielders in the game. However, the 31-year-old has recently become surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou following the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.
The likes of Sergio Busquets, de Jong, Arthur Melo, and Arturo Vidal are currently ahead of him in the pecking order at the club while Quique Setien is also prepared to gove a push to academy product Ruqui Puig. Rakitic has made just 10 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions this season.
There have been speculations that Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus are considering him while Premier League giants Manchester United have also been linked with him. Regardless, the player is believed to be happy at the Camp Nou and wants to stay till the summer.
Meanwhile, the recent report states that Barca want to offload the Croatian as they look to balance their books with a big-money move for Valencia’s Rodrigo Moreno on the cards. The Croatia international’s current contract at Barcelona expires in the summer of 2021 having extended two years ago.
