Barca to offer the ‘new Iniesta’ an improved contract

According to RAC1, Barcelona are working on making an improved contract offer to Pedri Gonzalez who has been a revelation for the club since his debut.

The youngster has been impressive thus far and the club want to reward his services and secure his stay with a long-term deal.

Since Pedri’s arrival from Las Palmas, he has established himself as a mainstay in Ronald Koeman’s new-look Barcelona being driven by youth players.

The midfielder’s current contract with the club will expire in June 2022 and it involves a clause that would allow an extension of two years. Barcelona are also interested in improving the economic terms of the deal as he currently earns a weekly wage of 34,000 euros.

The Catalans are also looking to fend off interests from other clubs who have started noticing the player’s brilliance on the pitch as well as his gradual rise to prominence. Reports suggested that the 18-year-old had previously been contacted by Liverpool.

Pedri has played his part nicely and has been instrumental in revitalizing Barca’s midfield play with his work rate when not in possession of the ball, quality technical ability, and range of passing.

He has been compared to Andreas Iniesta and how the club would love to have a midfielder that possesses Iniesta’s traits.

Meanwhile, Pedri is intent on succeeding and making his mark at the club and has not hidden this desire. He wants to remain a Barca player for many years to come and win significant laurels with the side. This is a big positive for Barca in their quest to tie him down at the club.
