In recent times, Lionel Messi has been very open about the need for a massive reconstruction in Barcelona due to the club’s underperformance this season.
Regardless of his status as the most influential figure at Camp Nou, the club have been advised not to easily give in to his demands as it could spell more doom for the Catalans in the future.
Ranoveer Neogi of Everything Barca has noted that Messi requested that Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez should be signed.
The club have an eye on the 22-year-old forward who hasn’t been at his best since the start of the year, and there are fears that a move for him could end up as one of the club’s recent transfer mistakes alongside the huge amount of money that will be spent.
Neogi wrote: “Since the start of 2020, Martinez has scored just five times which is quite a shocking figure given all the hype and how highly rated the player is. Barcelona has already made far too many mistakes in the transfer market and Lautaro Martinez could be the next one,”
“The ideal option for Barca would be to wait for another season to see whether Martinez is not a one-season wonder as many now believe so. Just because Lionel Messi wants his national teammate at the club does not mean that it must happen.
“The Blaugrana have already made ample mistakes in the transfer market including the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann, and Ousmane Dembele. Barca cannot afford to make another blunder by paying 90 million euros for a one-season wonder.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona will be preparing for a tough second leg of UEFA Champions League R16 clash against Napoli after losing the La Liga to perennial rivals Real Madrid.
Regardless, the Catalan giants can count on their momentum going into the game after ending the season on a high with a 5 nil bashing of Alaves away from home with Lionel Messi scoring a brace and providing one assist in the process.
