Bayern and Thiago Alcantara agree contract extension

A report by German outlet Bild claims that Bayern Munich will announce a new long-term contract with Thiago Alcantara during the week.

The midfielder’s former deal was left with just 12 months amid suggestions that the Bavarian giants would listen to offers for the midfielder this summer.

Thiago Alcantara, 29, has established himself as one of the best and most consistent players in the middle of the park in the Bundesliga since his arrival from Barcelona in 2013.

The player struggled with injury problems in the past but Bayern have made the move to secure the midfielder’s best years that he has to offer at the peak of his career.

They are also discussing contract extension deals with the likes of David Alaba and Manuel Neuer ahead of the 2020/21 football season.

Thiago Alcantara has been one of the best passers of the ball in the Bundesliga. However, according to stats from Whoscored, he’s yet to provide an assist in 22 Bundesliga games and has made just 20 key passes this season.

He has the best dribble success rate in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Regardless, his ability to drive forward with the ball and initiate attacks without losing the ball is the key point of his style of play.
