Frenchman Karim Benzema has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid that will keep him at the club until 2023.
The French striker has been in incredible form since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from the club in 2018. Since then, he has scored at least 20 goals in the three La Liga seasons that have followed and has also registered 24 assists in that period.
He has also been a major mainstay in the team and is one of those players that have not been majorly affected by injuries in recent years. Karim Benzema has missed just 7 La Liga games for Los Blancos in 3 years.
He has also begun the 2021/22 season on a high as he scored a brace in Real Madrid’s season opener away to Alaves. His future at the Bernabeu has been speculated doe some time as he was one of the top players whose contracts will expire next summer.
However, Fabrizio Romano has disclosed that the Frenchman has since extended his stay at the Bernabeu by an additional year and this will take him to 14 years with Real Madrid.
The extension comes as no surprise for a player whose impressive form ensured his return to the French team for the Euro 2020 tournament.
The news is coming after the likes of Dani Carvajal and Thibaut Courtois reached similar agreements with the club. This leaves the likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Isco, and Marcelo as the only senior players that could decide to leave for free at the end of the season.
