Chelsea have already seen the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig ahead of the 2020/21 season. They’ve been heavily linked with Bayern Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz in a deal that sources claim is as good as done.
However, the Blues have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the midfielder as Bayern Leverkusen have insisted that Kai Havterz won’t leave until they are done with their Europa League exertions next month.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to secure a deal for the 21-year-old so he can settle quickly in West London in preparation for the upcoming season which begins in September.
However, Leverkusen director Rudi Voller has revealed that nothing is cast in stone and that Havertz will participate in the climax of the Europa League.
Leverkusen are already in the last 16 of the competition and face Rangers next Thursday, already having a 3:1 lead from the first leg.
If they eventually qualify for the quarter-finals, the competition will be completed with a knockout competition in Germany and its final set for August 21.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Havertz has told Leverkusen that he wants the move to Stamford Bridge. Lampard also has his eyes on a decent goalkeeper for next season after dropping Kepa Arrizabalaga against Wolves on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
Willy Caballero started in goal ahead of the Spaniard on the last day of the season and it remains to be seen who will be between the sticks for the Blues in the FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley.
The game will see two newbie managers in Frank Lampard for Chelsea and Mikel Arteta for Arsenal, come up against each other in their quest to land the first silverware of their professional coaching careers. We wait to see who comes out tops on the day.
