VAR to be introduced at Euro qualifiers from September 2021

Europe football's governing body UEFA have confirmed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be deployed in agreement with FIFA for the remaining European Qualifier matches for the FIFA World Cup in 2022. This is coming after a decision was made by UEFA's Executive Committee in July 2021. The system will be in place from match day 4 and will be deployed in all the remaining matches that will be taking place from September. Euro 2020 final racist abuse: 11 people have been arrested

The detectives who were tasked with the investigation of racist abuse to England players on social media after the Euro 2020 final loss to Italy have arrested 11 people.  It can be recalled that a hate crime investigation was launched due to racist comments aimed at some black players after the game against Italy on July 11. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho were subjected to racist abuse on social media after missing their penalty kicks. Meanwhile, more than 600 posts have been reported to the  UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU). 207 out of the 600 weRe identified as criminal and the UKFPU issued data requests to the social media companies involved.
