Chelsea are interested in acquiring a new left-back this summer and have been heavily linked with a move for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell. However, reports suggest that the London outfit have reportedly decided on an alternative signing.
It is expected that Chelsea will be made to pay over the mark for Chilwell as he’s one of Leicester’s prized assets and they are not ready to let him leave the King Power.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea must make a bid of around £70million to sign Chilwell and this valuation has forced the Blues to consider alternatives that could be acquired for a far lesser fee.
Therefore, Chelsea have reportedly put interest in Getafe left-back Marc Cucurella. The left-back joined Getafe on loan from Barcelona last summer and was outrightly signed by Getafe four months ago.
He made 37 La Liga appearances for Getafe and was impressive for the side, scoring 1 goal and providing 5 assists in his breakthrough campaign.
Marc Cucurella has played for Spain at various youth levels and is just 22 and reportedly available for £27m, which is less than half of what is being demanded by Leicester City for Ben Chilwell.
AS in Spain have suggested that Chelsea are already preparing an offer for Cucurella as Frank Lampard continues on his summer rebuild with the signing of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner already confirmed.
They’ve also been heavily linked with a summer move for Bayern Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz. With the interest in Chilwell, Cucurella, amongst others, it remains to be seen how Chelsea handles the futures of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.
Emerson has already been linked with a return to the Serie A while it won’t be a surprise if Alonso is given another go for Chelsea in the upcoming season.
Will it be Cucurella, Ben Chilwell, Alex Telles, or Nicolas Tagliafico? We wait to see how Frank Lampard and the board handle the club’s need for a left-back and football at the club in general.
