According to a report from The Daily Telegraph, Chelsea had an approach for Hakim Ziyech turned down by Ajax in January but remain eager to sign him in the summer.
Frank Lampard was disappointed over Chelsea’s lack of activity in the January transfer window but has been promised a transfer budget over £150m in the summer.
Chelsea reportedly saw their pursuit of a striker with moves for Dries Mertens and Moussa Dembele fail in the winter transfer window and it has now come to light that they tried to snap up Ziyech from Ajax in January.
The 26-year-old has been one of the best players in the Eredivisie this term and in the last few years and has also been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund.
Ziyech signed a new contract with the Eredivisie giants at the start of the season and this was one of the reasons why Chelsea’s approach for the forward late in January was quickly turned down.
