Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is interested in a reunion with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante but Chelsea will only consider an exit for the French midfielder if a bid close to £80m is made.
It can be recalled that Conte and Kante won the Premier League title together when the latter was in charge at Chelsea and the Italian is keen to have Kante in his ranks as he attempts to battle Juventus’ dominance in the Serie A.
Kante’s influence at Stamford Bridge has diminished since Lampard took over but the English manager is not keen to see him leave as he builds a new exciting team at Stamford Bridge.
Regardless, the Blues have slapped an £80m price tag on the 29-year-old Frenchman, possibly ruling out an exit to Inter.
Meanwhile, the Blues have been on a spending spree and have already signed Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and Ben Chilwell. They are also looking to acquire Kai Havertz from Bayern Leverkusen.
Pedro and Willian have already left Chelsea on free transfers but the Blues will have to balance the books by selling some players. It remains to be seen if Kante will be among those that will be offloaded.
Reports suggest that Conte is also interested in Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri and Olivier Giroud, both of which may be more realistic targets than Kante, although Giroud signed a new contract in May which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until next summer.
However, with fierce competition from the likes of Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham, the Frenchman may consider a departure if an offer comes in.
Emerson, on the other hand, will have his playing time severely limited as was the case last season after Alonso was established as the preferred left-back.
With the addition of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, it will only get worse for the Italy international. The likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Michy Batshuayi, and Davide Zappacosta should leave the Blues this summer of offers come in.
