Chelsea to revisit transfer target in January

Chelsea have a new boss but it appears that they will still persist with the pursuit of former targets based on reports. The Blues may still make a move for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries in the January transfer window.

The Dutchman has been impressive in Serie A with Inter Milan and his work rate and attacking prowess make him a good fit for some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League with Chelsea leading the race.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea plan to make a move in January and won’t mind having the player remain with Inter on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 season before making a permanent move next summer.

The challenge remains if Inter Milan will accept the offer although it seems like a good one as they won’t be losing a key player in the middle of the season.

Meanwhile, one would ask how Chelsea want to deploy Reece James if they want to sign Dumfries who may not be intent on coming to sit on the bench.

Reece James has also shown that he can play effectively as one of the defenders in a back three, so this could be another factor.
