Chiellini admits admiration for Luis Suarez despite biting incident

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has admitted that he admires Barcelona striker Luis Suarez despite the infamous biting incident during the 2014 world cup.

The Uruguay international who was then at Liverpool was banned for 9 international matches for his conduct against the Italian in a game in which Italy lost 1 nil in Natal, Brazil. It can be recalled that Suarez escaped punishment during the game.

The ban ensured that Luis Suarez did not participate in any football-related activity for four months, and had to wait till October for his debut after making a move to Barcelona.

“I admire his malice,” Chiellini disclosed in his autobiography in quotes translated by AS. “If he lost it, he would become a normal striker.

“On the pitch, I’m a big son of a b***h and I’m proud of it: malice is part of football. He went too far with the bite, but that was his strategy in combat and if I can say so, it’s also mine.

“He and I are similar and I like to come up against strikers like that.”
