Antonio Conte is facing a selection crisis after both Tiemoue Bakayoko and David Luiz picked up knocks as Chelsea and Roma settled for a 3 all draw in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
The injury concerns at the club have resulted in a thin squad for Chelsea as they prepare for the upcoming games in subsequent weeks. Notable absences from the side are N’Golo Kante, Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater who is yet to make his debut for the club.
Conte tagged the situation as an emergency for his side. On David Luiz’ fitness level, he said:
“He has a little problem in his calf. In this moment, I can’t risk my players, because we are playing always the same players so it’s very difficult now to risk someone and to lose him for many times.”
He went further to disclose that Bakayoko also experienced pains in his groin in the course of the game.
“It’s not about injuries, but trying to get the best out of the team,” he said.
“The same players have been going all the time since pre-season. We’ve got three injuries, not seven or eight, but it’s still an emergency situation for us.”
Chelsea face an in form Watford side who are having their best possible start in the Premier League and are currently managed by Marco Silva this weekend. Conte will have to improvise to ensure that he puts out a befitting lineup that can see his side return to winning ways.
