Di Maria extends contract with Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria has signed a contract extension with the club and will be at the Parc des Princes until 2022, the Ligue 1 giants revealed on Friday.

‘Paris St Germain is delighted to announce that Angel Di Maria has signed a one-year contract extension, with an option of a second year,’ PSG said in a statement.

The Argentina international has been a key man for the club since making the move from Manchester United in 2015. The player now 33, has scored 87 goals and provided 99 assists in his time at Parc des Princes.

Di Maria might also set a new assists record at the club before he leaves if he maintains his consistency as only Safet Susic, who played for the French giants from 1982 to 1991 has provided more assists than him at the club with 103.

‘I hope to beat that record of Safet Susic because I would stay in the record books of the club,’ Di Maria disclosed in a club statement.

Since joining PSG, he has won 16 trophies including 4 league titles in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively. They are also in good stead to win the Ligue 1 this season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

PSG’s progression to the quarter-finals of the ongoing UEFA Champions League also means that Di Maria will have another opportunity to play his part in trying to help the club win the competition that has eluded them for decades.

PSG currently sit joint-second in Ligue 1 and are just 2 point behind leaders Lille and they will host Nantes in the Ligue 1 on Sunday. They are overwhelming favorites for maximum points in this one.
