Donyell Malen’s move to Dortmund to cost €34m

Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund are close to completing a deal for PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands winger Donyell Malen, with the player, believed to have embarked on a trip to Germany last weekend for a medical while the clubs sort out the final details of the transfer.

Malen was a youth player at Ajax and Arsenal but only broke through to the senior level at PSV Eindhoven in 2017.

Since then, the 22-year-old has been a prominent member of the team and was very impressive in the 2020/21 season with 27 goals to his name in all competitions. 

He played his part for the Netherlands at Euro 2020 and was impressive in the tournament. He is now set for a move to the Bundesliga where he is expected to replace Jadon Sancho at the Signal Iduna Park ahead of the 2021/22 football season.

Reports in the Netherlands suggest that an announcement is close and that the deal is worth €34m. 

According to the report, it will be an initial €30m guaranteed fee plus €4m in add-ons. Meanwhile, former clubs Arsenal and Ajax will gain from nominal sell-on fees owed by PSV, 1%, and 1.5% respectively.

Meanwhile, PSV has other players that impressed at Euro 2020. Wing-back Denzel Dumfries was another player that caught the eye in the tournament as he scored in group stage wins against Ukraine and Austria.

The 25-year-old made the move to PSV from Heerenveen in 2018 and is close to a high-profile switch to Serie A defending champions Inter Milan. 

The Serie A champions need a replacement for Achraf Hakimi who switched to PSG. However, reports in Italy suggest that the deal for Dumfries has been delayed because Inter are interested in a loan move with an option to but PSV have not welcomed the offer.
