Everton suspend first team player pending police investigation

Premier League outfit Everton have confirmed the suspension of one of their first-team players pending a police investigation.

Details on the investigation have not been disclosed and neither have the alleged offenses. Regardless, the Toffees won’t make any further comments at this time.

Everton published a statement on their official website on Monday night revealing their cooperation with the authorities involved in their inquiries.

It read: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

The club have begun their pre-season campaign under newly appointed manager Rafael Benitez whose appointment was greeted with numerous criticisms.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss will have to fight to win over the trust of the club’s supporters as he looks to take them better than their 10th place finish in the 2020/21 season under Carlo Ancelotti.

Everton have a packed preseason schedule as they tour the United States later this month where they will face Colombian club Millonarios on July 26 before facing either Arsenal or Inter Milan on July 29. Both games will be played in Florida.

After these games, they’ll return home for their final pre-season clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford before the 2021/22 Premier League campaign kicks off. Everton will face Southampton at home in their first league game of the season on August 14.
