Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has been described as a five-a-side player by Tony Cascarino. Jorginho has come under intense scrutiny due to Chelsea’s recent struggles.
The former Napoli man was hailed for his influence on the team earlier in the season but has failed to make any significant contribution to Chelsea’s attacks.
Jorginho has gone on to break the Premier League record for most passes since his arrival at Stamford Bridge but has scored just 1 goal through a penalty and has failed to provide an assist.
It’s no more news that Maurizio Sarri has built the team around Jorginho who has been preferred in the holding role ahead of fans’ favorite N’Golo Kante, who has been pushed further up the pitch in a more attacking role.
Cascarino admitted he’s sorry for Jorginho, pointing out that the Italy international has become the scapegoat due to Chelsea’s recent poor performances but added that he was yet to be impressed by Jorginho.
In a chat with Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Chelsea forward said:
“Jorginho has become a bit of a scapegoat.
“The atmosphere towards him at Stamford Bridge, the finger is pointed at him and I feel sorry for him because it’s not just him.
“But he was bought for a lot of money and other clubs wanted him.
“But I look at him and I just think, ‘wow, you look like a five-a-side player!’
“He’s light, he’s got a great touch and moves it around, but any team that smothers him, gets onto him and press him, Chelsea really do struggle then to get the ball to any position and look like a dangerous side.”
