Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has received his Golden Boy trophy in Turin. It can be recalled that the Portuguese who joined the La Liga outfit from Benfica in a deal worth £113m in the summer beat the likes of Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz to win the award last month.
Joao Felix, 20, was accompanied by his agent Jorge Mendez to receive the award at the ceremony. The 20-year-old was impressive last season, establishing himself as the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Europa League in Benfica’s 4:2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
He also played his part in Benfica’s league triumph by scoring 15 goals and providing 7 assists in 21 starts.
He’s currently at Atletico Madrid where he is seen as the replacement for Antoine Griezmann. He has been impressive thus far and has scored 4 goals in 16 games.
Previous winners of the Golden Boy award are Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe, and Sergio Aguero who also won it as an Atletico Madrid player in 2007.
