Lampard confirms injuries to key duo after FA Cup win against Liverpool
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that Mateo Kovacic and Willian both suffered Achilles injuries in Tuesday’s FA Cup 2 nil win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Kovacic was replaced by Mason Mount after 42 minutes after he limped off following a duel with Sadio Mane, while Willian who scored the opener for the Blues with a shot that was spilled by Adrian went off six minutes into the second half.
“Both have got an Achilles’ issue,” Lampard confirmed after the game.
“Willian hopefully is not too bad, that is what he is reporting there so we will see how he is tomorrow. Kovacic’s feels slightly worse. Hopefully not too drastic, so we’ll see.”
Meanwhile, the loss of Kovacic could be a huge blow for the Blues who will be without Jorginho for the coming games. The Italy international will miss Premier League matches against Everton and Aston Villa after collecting his 10th yellow card this season in the 2 all draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.
Jorginho will also be absent when the Blues travel to the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich in the second le of their round of 16 tie. Lampard already has the likes of Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, and N’Golo Kante on the sidelines.
