Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed his delight with Timo Werner’s start to life at Stamford Bridge and has tipped the German to improve.
Werner has been settling well since he made the move from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in the summer in a big-money deal. The 24-year-old has scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist for the Blues in the Premier League but has 8 goals in all competitions this season.
The forward will now be looking to impress further and establish himself as one of the best players at the club in recent times as the season progresses, and maybe, even help Chelsea mount a challenge for the Premier League title this term.
His performances thus far have impressed his English manager and Frank Lampard disclosed this during an interview with Chelsea FC’s website.
“I’m really pleased with Timo because when you make a big move, everybody expects you to come in and hit the ground running.
“They expect him to know every pass that they [his team-mates] want to make and them to know every run he wants to make.
“It doesn’t work that simply so there’s always a period where you’re striving on those levels.
“For Timo to produce those numbers and have the impact he’s had so far shows the quality levels of him.
“He’s very easy to manage, I’m enjoying it and I think he’s going to get even better for us.”
Timo Werner can deputize as a center-forward or as a winger for Chelsea and this is an added advantage for Frank Lampard’s men. Meanwhile, Chelsea sit fifth in the Premier League and hope to improve on their fourth-place finish last term.
The Blues beat Chris Wilder’s struggling Sheffield United 4:1 at Stamford Bridge in their last Premier League game before the international break. They’ll return to action next weekend after the international break to face Newcastle at St James’ Park.
