Lionel Messi has admitted he’s not close friends with Cristiano Ronaldo but would gladly accept a dinner invitation from the Portuguese forward.
The two players crossed paths in the recent UEFA awards having rivaled each other for the biggest individual awards in the land before Ronaldo left Spain for another adventure with Juventus in the Italian Serie A.
Ronaldo aired his admiration for the Argentine when quizzed during the award gala, pointing out that feelings between the two were mutual and that there was no bad blood between them.
Ronaldo went on to suggest that he and Messi could meet up for lunch sometime and the Barcelona forward is not indifferent to the suggestion.
In a chat with Sport, when asked if he would accept a dinner invitation from Ronaldo, Lionel Messi replied: “Yes, I don’t have any problem with that.
“I’ve always said that I don’t have any issue with him. We might not be friends because we’ve never shared a dressing room together but I always see him at award shows and there’s no problem.
“We actually spoke with each other for quite a long time at the most recent show.
“I don’t know if there will be a dinner because I don’t know if our paths will cross for obvious reasons, each one of us has our own life and our own commitments. But obviously I would accept the invitation.”
Meanwhile, Messi is yet to be available for Barcelona this season due to a calf problem he has been nursing since the summer. Ernesto Valverde will be hoping that he returns to action soon to boost his side’s chances this season.
