The Reds have emerged as favorites to land Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer ahead of the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain according to reports.
Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly a big fan of the Senegalese center-back who has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe in recent years.
However, Le 10 Sport have claimed that the 28-year-old is most likely to end up at Anfield if he leaves Napoli and would play alongside Virgil Van Dijk in the Liverpool back four. Jurgen Klopp believes the pair would form an efficient partnership.
PSG are also interested in the defender but will stick with veteran captain Thiago Silva for next season. Meanwhile, Koulibaly favors a move to the Premier League over Ligue 1.
The likes of Newcastle United and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the towering defender.
Former Liverpool defender Don Hutchinson admitted that the acquisition of Koulibaly by the Reds would make them almost unstoppable. He told ESPN FC:
‘I think if Koulibaly comes through the door at Liverpool and he plays alongside Virgil van Dijk, I think you wrap the title up right there,’
‘I don’t think there’s anyone better, there won’t be another partnership like it.
‘The best defenders out there in Europe apart from the Premier League at the moment is Milan Skriniar at Inter [Milan], my gut feeling is he’s going to join Pep [Guardiola] at Man City, and alongside him is Koulibaly.
