Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has insisted that a defeat to Manchester City on Thursday at the Etihad will not derail Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations.
The Reds currently lead Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with 7 points and have maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League. However, a tough test awaits them at the Etihad.
Manchester City will be keen to end Liverpool’s unbeaten run and close the gap on the league leaders. Speaking ahead of the game, Lovren said:
“I think they said it also last year when Man City came to Anfield and they said if we win and they lose it will change something.”
“I didn’t see it at the end that Man City change anything. They kept their football, they kept their style of play.
“So we will do the same. It will change nothing. Good game, bad game – the same philosophy will stay.”
Liverpool maintained a 100% record throughout December as they won all 7 matches in a row, beating the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal along the way.
Man City have a game on their hands and will have to dig deep to beat this Liverpool side who boast a mean defence and a red-hot attack. It remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola and his men can put Jurgen Klopp’s side to the sword.
