Lyon reject Chelsea’s £34m bid for Moussa Dembele
A report from Sky Sports suggests that Ligue I outfit Lyon have rejected a bid of £34m which Chelsea were willing to part with for forward Moussa Dembele.
It states: ‘It was understood Chelsea were willing to pay up to £34m for the 23-year-old, but it would seem they will have to revise their strategy if they want to have any hope of signing the player. They have their work cut out though with the French club releasing a statement on Thursday outlining their intent not to let Dembele leave.’
Moussa Dembele has been decent for Lyon after joining from Celtic and has maintained an average of at least a goal every two games. The forward has established himself as a decent dribbler, and crafty finisher who can take a shot and put it into the net beyond a goalkeeper’s reach consistently.
He also stands at 6′ and is an ideal striker for converting crosses with his head. However, it remains to be seen where he would fit in if he eventually arrives at Stamford Bridge going by Lampard’s penchant for keeping players on the bench till they meet some certain criteria in training.
Moussa Dembele is a starter and key player at Lyon and will have to contend with Tammy Abraham who already has 12 goals to his name in the Premier League.
Regardless, it must be said that Chelsea must be willing to part with more than the supposedly meager first offer for a key player if they are truly interested. Therefore, Marina Granovskaia and her colleagues must come up with an attractive offer for the forward.
