Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Barcelona to sign Nelson Semedo according to the Sun via Spanish publication Sport. The right-back was negotiating with the La Liga giants over a new contract but talks appear to have stalled as the star is now considered transferable.
However, Man United will face competition for the Portuguese from the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. Sport revealed that Semedo’s release clause is €100m (£88m) but given his transferable status, Barca may accept a considerably lesser fee.
Meanwhile, Semedo is open to an exit after losing his place as the club’s first-choice right-back. Sergi Roberto has given the Portuguese some fight for the number one slot at right-back. Regardless, Semedo has proven to be a quality player but has suffered injuries, and there are questions on if Man United need another right-back.
Aaron Wan Bissaka has impressed for the Red Devils in the position although he falls short in the attacking department, an area where Semedo flourishes in but also does not possess the defensive abilities Of AWB.
Semedo can also play as a left-back and has done so a few times for Barcelona. He can deputize in the role for the Red Devils who have Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams playing there.
