According to reports, Marcelo has been dropped from Real Madrid’s squad for the crucial La Liga game against Granada on Thursday due to a training ground row with manager Zinedine Zidane.
Their fellow title contenders and league leader Atletico Madrid won 2:1 against Real Sociedad on Wednesday night and this means that Los Blancos must claim all three points away to Granada to keep their title hopes alive.
Five points separate the two city rivals presently, and the exclusion of Marcelo from the team sheet ahead of the game called for concern especially as his fellow full-back Ferland Mendy is out for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, a report by Goal claims that the Brazilian’s absence is due to a furious clash with Zidane during training on Tuesday. They added that the 33-year-old is not impressed with the Frenchman’s tactics and starting line-ups recently and feels that they have cost the side.
The two men had a heated argument and it is believed that Marcelo is not the only player who has lost faith in Zidane and it seems that the Frenchman may leave in the summer and walk away from the club with one year left on his contract.
However, this clash is coming at the worst time due to the importance of the upcoming games for Los Blancos. It remains to be seen if they’ll be able to steal the La Liga title from the grasps of Diego Simeone’s men after being easily eliminated from the semifinals of the UCL by Chelsea.
Reports have also emerged that Zidane could make a return to Juventus in the summer, and the speculation has heightened as Pirlo could get the sack by the end of the season.
If this materializes at the end of the season, one can’t help but wonder who’ll assume the managerial helm at Ream Madrid. This is because Florentino Perez will be on the lookout for another big-name manager.
