Martin Odegaard will not return to Real Madrid

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has stated that Martin Odegaard will not return to Real Madrid and is desperate to keep the Norwegian starlet for another season.

Odegaard has been impressive in his season-long loan at the club with 7 goals and 8 assists to his name in the 28 La Liga games this season.

Therefore, the club are looking to take advantage of the option that allows for the extension of his loan for another year. In a chat with Radio Euskadi, Aperribay said:

‘I think Odegaard is going to stay at Real. It is what I believe and the hope we have’.

‘When you stay at Real, if you stay, you have to be convinced, like when he came last year. Convinced that it is the best option for next season.

‘The decision is up to him and I think he will stay.’

It can be recalled that the Norwegian youngster was monitored by many of the top European clubs before Real Madrid landed his signature back in 2015 when he was 16.

However, he has struggled to nail down a place in the senior team since the move, making just two appearances for the club with three loan spells away from the club to different clubs thus far.

AC Milan were reportedly interested in Odegaard and the player has improved in his time at Heerenveen, Vitesse Arnhem, and Real Sociedad.

With his impressive form this term, the player will likely be the subject of major interest from some decent clubs in Europe. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are willing to integrate him into the senior side.

Regardless, if this is not the case, another season on loan to a decent La Liga club like Real Sociedad where he has been handed major responsibilities and will be given more game time won’t be a bad idea.

Los Blancos will have the chance to monitor and assess Odegaard’s progress properly at Real Sociedad if he remains in La Liga.
