This season has been a challenging one for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain with regards to the unavailability of key players for games due to COVID-19 infections and injuries.
The absence of some of these key players affected their start to the Ligue 1 season and will also affect their chances in the UEFA Champions League if the available ones can’t keep up with the competition from rival teams in their group.
It can be recalled that the Thomas Tuchel side have already lost one game in the UCL against Manchester United at the Parc des Princes. They will face Bundesliga outfit, RB Leipzig, on Wednesday but will be without another key player in Kylian Mbappe.
Kylian Mbappe has suffered a hamstring and this occurred during the Ligue 1 game against Nantes during the weekend.
Therefore, he will play no part when they face RB Leipzig due to muscle discomfort on his right hamstring. This was disclosed in a statement released by the club on Tuesday ahead of the game.
Regardless, his availability for the game will be reevaluated within 48 hours although it won’t be ideal to rush him into a high profile game and run the risk of aggravating the injury.
Mbappe has already scored 7 goals and provided 7 assists in 8 games this season for a PSG side where the likes of Neymar, Julian Draxler, Mauro Icardi, and Marci Verratti have injury problems.
Irrespective of these injury worries, the Ligue 1 champions have to try and get a positive result against the Julian Nagelsmann-led side to put themselves under less pressure in their quest to make it past the group stage and into the knockout stages.
Both teams have already lost to Manchester United in the competition thus far. PSG lost 2:1 at home to the Red Devils while RB Leipzig shockingly lost 5 nil at Old Trafford.
