Former UEFA president Michel Platini has been arrested for his role in awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
It can be recalled that the French legend assumed the role as president after being elected in 2007 and played the role until 2015. However, he was banned by the FIFA Ethics Committee.
According to Mediapart, Platini was apprehended and taken into custody on Tuesday morning due to an ongoing investigation into the rigging of votes which saw Qatar come out tops and subsequently handed the rights to host the 2022 World Cup.
Platini, 63, is currently in custody at a police station in Nanterres, a suburb in Paris.
