Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has expressed confidence that Leon Goretza will clear doubts concerning his future at the Allianz Arena by signing a new deal with the club.
The German midfielder has entered the final 12 months of his current contract and reportedly has a huge offer from Premier League giants Manchester United.
The Red Devils are eying Goretzka on a free transfer next summer but may test Bayern’s resolve this month should Frenchman Paul Pogba opt for an Old Trafford exit to PSG this summer.
It is believed that the player’s camp are not happy with how talks about a new contract with Bayern have been progressing but Nagelsmann is optimistic that an agreement is close.
“I’m not involved enough that I have a say every day. I stay out of these issues,” Eurosport quote Nagelsmann as saying after their pre-season friendly 3 nil loss to Napoli at the weekend.
“Of course I have talked to him about my plans for him. I’ve told him I’d be happy if he extended and I’m also confident. There are several topics involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension.
“I’ll continue to focus on the sports side of things and show him he can be on the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. He has potential to get even better.”
It can be recalled that the Bavarian giants signed Goretzka from Schalke on a free transfer in 2018 but he has not established himself as a mainstay in the first team.
The player’s physical transformation during last year’s pandemic was a major highlight as he has become an imposing box-to-box midfielder since then. He’s 26.
