Genk football club have announced the contract extension of super eagle striker, Paul Onuachu until 2024. He’s been an impressive cog for the Belgian giantS since 2019 when he was snapped up from Danish club Midtjylland and since then, he’s more of an asset to the team.
His addition to the Luminus Arena has been nothing short of a huge blessing – with his goals contributions, the Belgian side had recorded and secured some crucial wins. Paul also contributed immensely to the club’s triumph in the Belgian Cup for the 2020–21 campaign.
The Nigeria international kickstarted his phenomenal and goal-laden career for the Belgian powerhouse on September 1, 2019. In his debut season, he netted 9 times in 22 appearances. However, in his second, the magnificent fellow marauded the Jupiler Pro league by scoring a whopping 33 league goals in 38 league appearances.
With this staggering number he accrued, It’s not a shock that his scoring spree earned him the accolade of top scorer and he was also voted Professional Footballer of the Year in Belgium’s first division. The Nigeria international has taken his impressive goal tally to 50 for the Smurfs.
He was such an impressive player for Genk in the Europa last Thursday when John Van Den Brom’s side defeated SK Rapid Wien by a Lone goal, his 92nd decisive winner cannot be forgotten in a hurry and he was again instrumental on Sunday.
He did it again in the derby at Staaien. Genk’s second goal from his boot in the 83rd minute against Saint-Truidense sealed the whole points for the visitors.
With these numbers and his conversation rate, Paul’s time at Genk is trickling down because his numbers are winking to suitors across Europe and most notably from England.
Liverpool was rumored to be eyeing his signature at some point but it wasn’t concrete. It’s just a matter of time before he’s signed up by a bigger club.
