Two London strugglers will face each other when Arsenal welcome Chelsea to the Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday. Arsenal are under the recent regime of Mikel Arteta while Chelsea have been under club legend Frank Lampard since the season began.
It can be recalled that Mikel Arteta’s reign began in a 1 all draw away to Bournemouth in the Premier League while the Blues have been having some sort of a mixed season with ups and downs thus far under Frank Lampard.
Chelsea have been struggling at home recently having lost against the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth and Southampton but have been relatively impressive away from home. Their last trip to North London ended in a 2 nil win against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and Arsenal will be wary of this.
Meanwhile, this is Mikel Arteta’s home debut as Arsenal boss at the Emirates and he will be looking to get off to a winning start, and what better one, than against their London rivals? Arsenal showed some positive signs in their first game under Arteta against Bournemouth and will be looking to consolidate on the performance by amassing maximum points against Chelsea.
Arsenal will be looking to play possession-based football against Chelsea and the Blues must come up with a strategy to alter the Gunners’ playing style. The Blues have also proven to be a decent possession-based side under Frank Lampard and spectators will be keen to see how it all plays out when both sides step into the pitch on Sunday.
The likes of Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil will be key for Arsenal having impressed against Bournemouth. The Blues will also be happy with the return of Mateo Kovacic who played no part against Southampton.
This is sure to be an entertaining game if both sides choose to be expressive and not conservative or overly cautious on the day. Their forwards can put the ball away when the chances come. Hopefully., this ends up being a cracker as anticipated. I’m leaning towards a draw for this one. Let’s see what happens.
