PSG out for sweet revenge against Manchester United

In 2019, a significant number of folks were looking forward to the whitewashing of Manchester United by Paris Saint-Germain in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

The Ligue 1 giants had already won the first leg 2 nil at Old Trafford and just needed to consolidate on the result.

However, this was not the case in France as the Premier League outfit beat the Ligue 1 outfit 3:1 and qualified ahead of them to the shock of football fans around the world.

The result was further proof that PSG were just perennial bottlers in the Champions League and were only at their best in domestic competitions. My guess is that some of the players over those two legs are still at a loss as to what went wrong that night at the Parc des Princes.

These two sides will be facing each other in the group stage on Tuesday night. They also have the likes of RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir in the group. Obviously, the Turkish outfit are the whipping boys but the RB Leipzig must not be taken lightly.

Both sides are coming off the back of emphatic domestic wins during the weekend. PSG beat Nimes 4:0 away from home in Ligue 1 while Manchester United beat Newcastle United 4:1 in the Premier League away from home.

The Ligue 1 side will also want to show that the loss to the Red Devils more than a year ago was just a one-off. Well, was it? We’ll know as this game presents the perfect opportunity for us to find out.

Man United may be at an advantage as the French champions have a lot of injury worries with the likes of Marquinhos, Veratti, Paredes, Icardi, Draxler, amongst others on the sidelines ahead of the game. The Red Devils, on the other hand, seem to have everyone available.

The French Champions are favorites for all three points as they play at home and have the likes of Neymar and Mabappe to rely on. The Red Devils can also rely on the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Rashford, amongst others.

PSG and Tuchel will be out for revenge while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men will be eager to avoid defeat. The home side are expected to dominate possession and take the game to the Red Devils while they sit back and look to hit on the break.

The Red Devils have been grinding out results but have not been spectacular, but it must be noted that they weren’ when they eliminated PSG.

The French champions will be crazy to underate Man United and I’m very sure the means to do away with such will have been derived since the draw was made. Regardless, I’ll be going for a PSG win nonetheless.
