PSG under pressure but must take the game to United
Manchester United have finally gotten their first Premier League home win of the season.
They will be looking to consolidate on their home form with a win against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League and this will see them automatically book a place in the round of 16 with 1 game to spare.
It’s a wise game to spare too as it will be an away game to RB Leipzig in Germany. Meanwhile, PSG currently sit second in the group and know that a loss at Old Trafford will be disastrous for them.
It can be recalled that the Red Devils beat them 2:1 at the Parc des Princes when they met in the first leg but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men will be wise enough to know that winning away doesn’t translate to an easy win at home.
When both sides last met in a previous UCL competition, the Ligue 1 giants won at Old Trafford while Manchester United won at the Parc des Princes in the return leg against all odds.
This should be an exciting encounter as both sides will be raring to go. PSG boss Thomas Tuchel will be feeling immense pressure ahead of this game on Wednesday night and so will his counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, albeit far lesser than the German.
It’s a no-brainer that the success of PSG’s season lies in the result of this game at Old Trafford. Therefore, the Red Devils have a game in their hands, and this is another perfect opportunity for Bruno Fernandes to pull the strings as folks would expect.
PSG were expected to boss this group but it has not been the case. They’ve already lost twice in the group away to RB Leipzig and at home to Man United. Their last game is a very winnable one at home against Istanbul Basaksehir.
However, the comfort of the game will count for nothing if they lose again to Manchester United and RB Leipzig get a result at faraway Turkey.
Both sides could opt for a game of convenience on the last matchday. Therefore, PSG are condemned to not lose at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. All 3 points would be ideal!
Any negative result might see them play in the Europa League and this won’t bode well for Tuchel’s future as he will likely get the boot. Therefore, the stars at the club have to sit up and be counted.
Man United will fancy their chances. After all, they’ve won all their home games in the UCL this season, thrashing RB Leipzig 5 nil, and Istanbul Basaksehir 4:1 respectively. They will be the side under less pressure as a point will see them through to the next stage.
They’ll likely sit back and hit on the counter and this could be dangerous for PSG who need a result in the game.
The Parisiens will have to come out all guns blazing but must be wary of United’s counter-attacking threat. The result on Wednesday night will definitely play a part in defining Tuchel’s future at PSG. We wait to see the excitement this encounter holds.
