PSV Eindhoven hire Roger Schmidt as coach for next season

Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven have hired Roger Schmidt on Wednesday as a coach for next season, and he will be replacing interim coach Ernest Faber.

The 52-year-old who gained a reputation for energetic and attacking soccer at Red Bull Salzburg, Bayern Leverkusen and Chinese team Beijing Gouan put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the financial terms undisclosed.

Faber will return to his former role of leading the PSV Academy after this season. He was appointed as a replacement to Mark van Bommel who was fired in December when the team sat fourth on the Eredivisie log.

Meanwhile, PSV are still fourth and are 7 points behind Ajax and AZ Alkmaar who both have a game in hand.

“I have always been captivated by the charm of Dutch football and I am really looking forward to exploring a new environment,” Schmidt said in a statement on PSV’s website.

“PSV fully support the style of play I have in mind. And I fully support PSV’s wish to win silverware.”
